Album Corner: Champion – Chill ’em all

Coming at us from Montreal, Quebec is Chill ’em all by DJ Champion. This album will turn 20 years old in November of this year. Crazy, right?

Even though it was originally released in the fall, there is something about the music that makes it a soundtrack for – and celebration of – summer vibes.

The relaxed but steady dance tempo, languorous yet catchy guitar riffs, and airy reverberating style of the tracks make me picture walking down the sidewalk in Kensington or 17th Ave in the late afternoon.

Wavy heat emanates from the cars and asphalt as convertibles with the roof down slowly drive past. Bar patios are filled to the brim with people drinking beer to beat the heat. The nearby ice cream shop has a line out the door of people looking for something to cool down. And you walk on by it all with headphones on; unconsciously matching the cadence of your footsteps to the rhythm of Keep On’s steady beat.

Cheers,

Evan
